2015 MLB Projections for the Baltimore Orioles

2015 MLB Projections: An Early Look at the Baltimore Orioles

BaseballFantasyFantays baseball

As I begin my series of team-by-team MLB Projections, please take note of the word ‘early’ in the title. This is a starting point. With most every team there will be things we just can’t know. While the rate stats won’t change all that much, playing time adjustments will have to be made. Keep that in mind with this early look.

2015 MLB Projections: Oriole Batters

Notes on Hitting Projections:

  1. Matt Wieters projections allow for missed time for recovery following his June Tommy John surgery. He’ll likely get more rest and also see time at DH. I’ll revisit this in the spring as we know more about his recovery and how Baltimore will handle his playing time early in the season.
  2. Alejandro De Aza and Steve Pearce projections assume Orioles acquire one or two more bats to fill out their outfield. Pearce would then likely see more time at DH and De Aza is more of 4th outfielder type. If Orioles don’t add an impact bat both will be needed in the outfield and I’ll adjust De Aza’s at-bats accordingly.
  3. Currently expecting Chris Davis to play first base. If Pearce and De Aza end up starting in the outfield, Davis may slide to DH and I’ll add projections for prospect Christian Walker.

2015 MLB Projections: Oriole Pitchers

Notes on Pitching Projections:

  1. I like Kevin Gausman to take a step forward (assuming Orioles don’t jerk him around more). Will probably be shut down or limited to the 180 IP threshold. Thus Ubaldo Jimenez‘s eight starts.
  2. These projections assume Dylan Bundy returns somewhere close to pre-Tommy John form and takes over a rotation slot near the mid-point of the season. Projecting Miguel Gonzalez to lose his starting job. Will be watching Bundy closely this spring.
  3. No regression for Zach Britton. He is the real deal.

So where do these projections go from here? Do the Orioles add a bat in the outfield? Who? Did I fail to project any Fantasy relevant hitters? Pitchers? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
