FANTASY SOCCER – Barclay’s Premier League Game Week 6 Wrap

MoreSoccer

Game Week Six was packed full of sensational goals. Phil Jagielka (£5.4m) fired home a laser in the 91st minute of the Merseyside Derby to tie the game against bitter rivals Liverpool. Queens Park Rangers’ Charlie Austin (£5.8) scored a brilliant spin around volley two minutes before Graziano Pellè (£7.8m) fired home the game winner. Pellè scored his fourth goal in four matches with a fantastic acrobatic overhead goal.

Seven keepers were able to keep a clean sheet this weekend, but it was Lukasz Fabianski (£5.0m) who came out on top of the pack. The Swansea keeper edged out everyone else by making three saves in their match against Sunderland, which was far from thrilling to say the least. At the end of the day the Polish international brought in seven points for the 4.7% of owners who fielded him.

The top scoring defender was West Brom’s Craig Dawson (£4.5m), who scored his first Premiere League goal in a 4-0 thrashing of Burnley. In addition to the goal, he also helped his side keep a clean sheet for a Game Week total of 13. Dawson has spent most of his career in the lower leagues of English soccer, which explains why only 0.5% of owners had him on their squads. West Brom’s clean sheet comes as no surprise as Burnley have only scored one goal in their first six games in the top tier of English football.

Dawson’s West Brom teammate Graham Dorrans (£5.0m) was the top scoring midfielder and he did it all: scored a goal, assisted two others, kept a clean sheet and earned the full three bonus points for a final tally of 16, despite receiving a yellow card.

Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko (£8.4m) was impressive in his first full 90 minute game of the season, scoring his first two goals to help secure his team a victory over Hull City. Along with two bonus points, Dzeko had a total of 13 Game Week points. Honourable mention goes to the West Brom striker Saido Berahino (£5.5m) who had his second two goal game of the season. Scoring only two bonus points, Berahino falls one point short of Dzeko with a total of 12.

Manchester United will be without their captain Wayne Rooney (£10.4m) after he was given a straight red card and subsequent three game ban, for lashing out and kicking West Ham’s Stewart Downing (£5.6m). Rooney misses the games against Everton, West Brom and Chelsea, and will return November 2nd against Manchester City. Arsenal had two key injuries in their Derby game against North London rivals Tottenham on the weekend. While Jack Wilshire (£6.4m) is expected to play next week against Chelsea, it appears that Aaron Ramsey (£9.0m) will be out for roughly a month after scans confirmed the extent of a hamstring injury.  Swansea will be without defender Angel Rangel (£5.0m) next week versus Newcastle after he received a second yellow card for an unnecessary foul in Swansea’s 0-0 draw at Sunderland.
