[UPDATE: Despite finishing the game Sunday, Karlos Williams was diagnosed with a concussion Monday night and is now in the league protocol, which he’ll have to pass in order to play Week 5 in Tennessee. With LeSean McCoy’s hamstring expected to sideline him again this week, and Williams status uncertain, Anthony Dixon becomes the running back you want to pick up. We’re in a tough situation entering the waiver deadline; since there’s no guarantee Williams misses any action, Dixon could very well end up being a wasted roster move by the time you finalize your rosters. However, if Williams does miss the Titans game, Dixon flirts with RB1 status this week. It all depends on team needs: If you desperately need the RB this week, you’ll have to lay down a chuck of your FAAB budget for the hope of getting one-week relief. If you don’t especially need Dixon, he’s still worth a lower bid in the off-chance you get him, and can package him with another piece to a desperate owner mid-week to improve your roster. Also, there’s the possibility Cierre Wood could share time with Dixon, but, based on how Dixon’s been utilized in the past, expect him to get the bulk of Buffalo’s goal line work Williams is watching from the sidelines. Oh, the Bills are bringing in Trent Richardson for a workout. If a fresh-off-the-street T RICH impacts this backfield Sunday, the Bills are fucked. Seriously. I wouldn’t worry too much about that, though. ANOTHER UPDATE: The Bills came to their senses and signed Dan Herron instead. I wouldn’t expect Herron to be more than an emergency option for Buffalo this week]

Don’t expect Duke Johnson to go all Willie Mays, or even Willie Mays Hayes, every week, but it seems like the Browns have figured out that DJ is probably their best receiver, and started utilizing him properly in the passing game. Johnson was dropped in almost half of leagues following an underwhelming opening three weeks… as it turns out, that was a mistake. It’s OK feeling stupid; I did it too, and am currently wearing my dunce cap – SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!!!!! After out snapping, yet under-producing Isaiah Crowell last week, Duke Silver closed the carry gap with Crowell and ended up with a team-high nine catches and 10 targets, nearly doubling Crowell’s snaps (45-to-27). That’s 15 grabs on 17 targets over the past two weeks. Backs primarily piling up Fantasy points through the passing game will always be game-flow dependent, but that’s rarely an issue in Cleveland since they’re always losing. Without any major injuries, Johnson’s the top RB add in both PPR and Standard formats, even in a split situation with Crowell. Unless you play in one of the leagues where Karlos Williams remains unowned, of course – bad leagues.

Although CJ Anderson is essentially a steaming pile of garbage at this point (CJA had a season-high 3.9 ypc Sunday, HUZZAH!!!!!), he continues to create chaos for anyone who wants to pickup and play Ronnie Hillman. Hillman looked better Sunday, like he has all season. For comparison, when CJA actually managed a first down, we got uber excited, like sad parents when their crappy kid manages to kick a ball without falling down. Hillman? He’s breaking off 72-yard runs on our bench/waiver wire. Hillman would sit atop the ranks, but it doesn’t appear like CJA is going away. Per PFF, Anderson remains excellent in pass protection, which is necessary with the Broncos’ worrisome offensive line, and even though Hillman is killing him on the stat sheet, CJA continues to stay on the field when the game is on the line. Hillman is worth owning, on the off chance Denver comes to its senses and makes the switch. Until then, he’s just a fringy FLEX option/bye week filler. It’s going to suck watching him have weeks like this on your bench, but the stash will be worth it if he can eventually seize the gig.

The combination of Joique Bell’s knee injury and general sh**tiness has people going mental for Ameer Abdullah. That’s fine and everything, but he’s already on someone’s roster. Theo Riddick is still available to add, however. Obviously, the Monday nighter will lend better insight about how the Lions’ backfield will shake out sans Bell, but Riddick seems to have a defined role in this offense: When Detroit’s down and passing, Riddick’s on the field, and catching all the passes. He’s a PPR play only, but like Lance Dunbar (pre-knee injury), he’s one with an elevated floor.

Thomas Rawls is in an interesting spot. Yes, if Marshawn Lynch was going to miss extended time, he’d definitely be the MUST ADD of all MUST ADDS, but it’s likely Beast Mode’s back next week and… then what? Seattle has always had a lone ball carrier under Pete Carroll, and I wouldn’t expect that blueprint to alter once Lynch returns to popping Skittles on the sidelines. This leaves Acting Commissioner Rawls as the next Knile Davis, a premier handcuff.

The Titans are back from bye, and everyone’s probably forgotten about Antonio Andrews by now. I don’t blame ya. Andrews led Tennessee in carries and rushing yards in Week 3, but only played 23 snaps (only five more than Bishop Sankey). He’s worth a spec add in deeper leagues, just in case they continue using him as the feature back, but I’d be concerned about Dexter McCluster. McCluster has covertly led the Titans in snaps the past two games, and while his inconsistent nature makes him a spot PPR filler, at best, he sucks away the upside from all the other RBs. That said, I don’t want to be too negative towards DMC. He’s out doing the Lord’s work: Getting kids not to text and drive through the power of rap.

Andre Williams out-carried Rashad Jennings for the second straight game, cracking double-digit touches again. Now, he didn’t produce gaudy totals like Jennings, since the Bills weren’t concerned about actually tackling Jennings, however, Williams continues getting all the work near the goal line, which, in the long-run, will produce more Fantasy points.

Now’s the time to sell-high on Doug Martin and pick up Charles Sims. Sims has been playing almost equal snaps to Martin (39/38 for Sims Week 4), and working the passing downs. Which, for the Bucs, is most the time. Sims has at least two catches in every game and scored in two straight. I guarantee he’ll supplant Martin as the lead RB in Tampa!!!!! Not a guarantee. He’s worth a spec add if you have the roster space, though.

Latavius Murray got benched for Roy Helu because of his exceptional hand-eye displayed here, and also here. It’s fair to say Oakland shan’t be having Murray on the Hands Team any time soon. Still, don’t worry about him, Murray will be back to his workhorse role next week. The real takeaway: Helu, not Marcel Reece or Taiwan Jones is the Murray handcuff… if owning Raiders back up RBs is something that you are into.

Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups: Wide Receiver

  1. Michael Crabtree
  2. Marvin Jones
  3. Rueben Randle
  4. Allen Hurns
  5. Leonard Hankerson
  6. Michael Floyd
  7. Ty Montgomery
  8. Ted Ginn Jr.
  9. Kamar Aiken
  10. Tavon Austin
  11. Dontrelle Inman
  12. Jamison Crowder
  13. Eddie Royal
  14. Dorial Green-Beckham
  15. Nelson Aghalor
  16. Keith Mumphery
  17. Devante Parker
  18. Devin Funchess
  19. Kenny Stills
  20. Jermaine Kearse
  21. Doug Baldwin
  22. Keshawn Martin
  23. Breshad Perriman
  24. Brandon Coleman
  25. Ryan Grant
  26. Marquise Lee
  27. Louis Murphy
  28. Kenny Britt
  29. Willie Snead
  30. Cole Beasley
  31. Chris Givens
  32. Malcom Floyd
  33. Phillip Dorsett
  34. Jeff Janis
  35. Jaelen Strong
  36. Markus Wheaton
  37. Bennie Fowler
  38. Tyler Lockett
  39. Brenton Bersin
  40. Jeremy Kerley
  41. Devin Smith
  42. Quincy Enunwa
  43. Jordan Norwood
  44. Harry Douglas
  45. Aaron Dobson
  46. Andre Roberts
  47. Philly Brown
  48. Darrius Heyward-Bey
  49. Andrew Hawkins
  50. Devin Street

No must adds, outside of Michael Crabtree on the Week 5 waiver wire at WR. It looked like CRAB PEOPLE, CRAB PEOPLE was done for the day, and a lot longer, after viciously twisting his ankle. But, all of a sudden, he reappeared on the field in the second half and led the team in receiving. Crabtree’s second fiddle to Amari Cooper, no doubt, but in the pass-happy Oakland offense, that’s fine. Crabby’s Top 15 in targets through four weeks and is on pace for over 1000 yards. He shouldn’t be this available.

Both Nate Washington (Hamstring) and Cecil Shorts (unnecessary garbage time dislocated shoulder) are both likely out for Houston’s quick turn around Thursday night against the Colts. Keith Mumphery played 56 snaps after Nasty Nate hobbled off the field, and without Shorts, expect him to be the WR2 on the team averaging the most pass attempts a game. He’s clearly not a priority add, but in deeper formats, with four teams on bye (Miami, Minnesota, New York Jets & Carolina) and injuries piling up, Mumphery could be a super sneaky plug-and-play. I’m talking John Turturro level here; I fear you’re underestimating the sneakiness, sir.

Similar situation in San Diego. The Chargers lost both Malcom Floyd (Concussion) and Stevie Johnson (Hamstring), making Dontrelle Inman the next man up. Here’s what you need to know about Inman: He could potentially have A LOT of opportunity if Johnson and Floyd miss time. Also, he runs a mean underneath crossing route. Yes, Antonio Gates returns next week, but a home date with the Steelers on Monday night is a pretty glorious matchup; there will be stats to go around for everybody.

With Jordan Reed expected to miss time (SHOCKER) with a concussion, and DeSean Jackson’s (hamstring) timetable pushed back again, Jamison Crowder is a name to store in the memory bank. He led the Skins in targets (12), receptions (7) and receiving yards (65), and figures to be a big contributor in Washington’s passing game for the foreseeable future. Kirk Cousins doesn’t like taking to the air, but he’s going to be forced to do it in Atlanta Week 5.

Dorial Green-Beckham. Pick him up and stash him. Do me this favor.

Monitor Kenny Stills in the coming weeks coming out of the Dolphins bye week, but don’t place too much stock in what he did in garbage time. Yes, the totals look nice, but he only played 23 of a possible 65 offensive snaps. Most coming with the Jets in prevent. I’d still rather have Rishard Matthews, despite his disappearing act.

Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups: Tight End

  1. Coby Fleener
  2. Charles Clay
  3. Richard Rodgers
  4. Eric Ebron
  5. Gary Barnidge
  6. Ladarius Green
  7. Owen Daniels
  8. Gavin Escobar
  9. Larry Donnell
  10. Crockett Gillmore
  11. Kyle Rudolph
  12. Maxx Williams
  13. Anthony Fasano

[UPDATE: Erbon suffered a knee injury against the Seahawks on Monday Night Football. Barring an extended absence, I still like Ebron long-term, but with the chance he doesn’t play this week, he moves down the rankings.]

Jordan Reed suffered yet another concussion, and Jordan CameronGreg Olsen, and Kyle Rudolph are on bye weeks. UH OH!!!! Somebody call Wink Yahoo. I prefer Eric Ebron’s upside, and shocking 2015 consistency the most of the available options, but there are some very acceptable fillers on the Week 5 waiver wire… If Dwayne Allen (Ankle) can’t go again Thursday night, expect Coby Fleener to continue seeing his six plus targets… I’m not certain how much the absence of Sammy Watkins led to Charles Clay’s extreme usage, either way, it’s clear he’s morphed into Tyrod Taylor’s most trusted weapon. If Allen plays, grab Clay over Fleener… Richard Rodgers doesn’t have the same bulk opportunity as Clay, Fleener or even Gary Bardnidge, but playing with the league’s best QB gives him the most TD upside… While Owen Daniels appears washed up, he’s still grabbing TDs, and streaming TEs against the Raiders has proved rather fruitful thus far. Oakland’s ceded six TDs to the position in four games.

Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups: Quarterback

  1. Marcus Mariota
  2. Derek Carr
  3. Sam Bradford
  4. Brian Hoyer

The lone legitimate pickup if you’re in need a full time QB? Marcus Mariota. He’s going to finish as a Top 10 Fantasy pivot… Derek Carr is a matchup play week-to-week, but one with a high ceiling… If the Eagles play like they did in the second half, actually taking shots downfield, Sam Bradford will regain his preseason value as a fringy Top 12 option… Brian Hoyer replaced a struggling Ryan Mallett against the Falcons. He’s not worth your time outside of two-QB leagues.

Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups: QB Streams

  1. Sam Bradford vs NO
  2. Blake Bortles vs TB
  3. Marcus Mariota vs BUF
  4. Joe Flacco vs CLE
  5. Mike Vick at SD
  6. Alex Smith vs CHI
  7. Brian Hoyer/Ryan Mallett vs IND
  8. Derek Carr vs DEN
  9. Nick Foles at GB
  10. Brandon Weeden vs NE

Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups: Defense Streams

  1. KC vs CHI
  2. ATL vs WSH
  3. GB vs STL
  4. JAX at TB
  5. NYG vs SF

I’m not completely giving up on the Chiefs D just yet. They are getting healthier in the secondary, and the Bears O-Line won’t be able to contain their pass rush like Cincy’s… I’ll gamble on consecutive strong performances from the Falcons D at home. Squaring off with Kirk Cousins always helps… Not a division game against a superior opponent? Then it’s safe to stream GB against the Rams. Although, limiting Todd Gurley appears like it’s going to be a rather difficult task. Fortunately, the Packers kill it against the run by simply getting big leads early and forcing opponents into the air.
