FANTASY BASEBALL – Week 4 Two Start Pitchers Power Rankings

BaseballMLB

The Fantasy Baseball Two Start Pitchers for Week 4 are as good as it gets. There are a ton of top end hurlers getting the ball twice this coming week making it great for those who have the likes of Jose Fernandez, Yu Darvish, Felix Hernandez, Adam Wainwright, Justin Verlander, Cliff Lee and Chris Sale. On the flip side, if you don’t have an ace scheduled to hit the bump twice in Week 4 then the list of players below is exactly what you need. There are a few Fantasy Baseball Two Start Pitchers out there in Week 4 who could make a difference against all those top tier pitchers if you happened to go against one of them.

Week 4 of the Fantasy Baseball Season will also bring us two outings from Japanese sensation Masahiro Tanaka who has made just about every batter miss with his nasty junk. Also, a showdown between two of the best in King Felix against another Japanese hurler in Yu Darvish and a matchup between Sale and Verlander.

No doubt about it:

Jose Fernandez – Miami Marlins (2-1, 2.66) @ ATL (Alex Wood) & @ NYM (Dillon Gee)

Yu Darvish – Texas Rangers (1-0, 0.82 ERA) @ OAK (Dan Straily) & @ SEA (Felix Hernandez)

Felix Hernandez – Seattle Mariners (3-0, 1.91 ERA) vs HOU (Dallas Keuchel) & vs TEX (Yu Darvish)

Adam Wainwright – St. Louis Cardinals (3-1, 1.80 ERA) @ NYM (Dillon Gee) & PIT (Edinson Volquez)

Wainwright might be the best Fantasy Baseball Two Start Pitcher for Week 4. He has two very favorable matchups in the Mets and Pirates and is coming off a complete game two hit shutout against the Nationals where he struck out eight. Mostly every ace in this section has at least one top tier pitcher they will be up against, including Fernandez. Wood has been excellent so far this season and is on his way to becoming one of the best breakout Fantasy Baseball pitchers of 2014. As for Wainwright, just be happy you have him on the squad. He already has 32 K’s over 30 innings.

Chris Sale – Chicago White Sox (3-0, 2,30 ERA) @ DET (Justin Verlander) & vs TB (Jake Odorizzi)

Cliff Lee – Philadelphia Phillies (2-2, 4.00 ERA) @ LAD (Paul Maholm) & @ ARI (Bronson Arroyo)

Justin Verlander – Detroit Tigers (2-1, 2.08 ERA) vs CWS (Chris Sale) & @ MIN (Mike Pelfrey)

Masahiro Tanaka – New York Yankees (2-0, 2.05 ERA) @ BOS (Jon Lester) & vs LAA (Garrett Richards)

Tanaka is fresh off his second straight 10 strikeout performance. Yes, his last game was against Chicago, but Tanaka has a 14:1 K:BB ratio through his first three starts. I’m not sure we expected him to be this good, but I think deep down we had a feeling it could happen. Tanaka is down right filthy and although he won’t be able to sustain this hot start, he should continue to roll through batters who haven’t seen him before. A good test for Tanaka in Week 4 at Fenway and against the highest scoring offense in the American League in the Angels.

Anibal Sanchez – Detroit Tigers (0-1, 3.21) vs CWS (John Danks) & @ MIN (Phil Hughes)

James Shields – Kansas City Royals (1-2, 2.00 ERA) @ CLE (Danny Salazar) & @ BAL (Miguel Gonzalez)

Potential is there:

Hyun-jin Ryu – Los Angeles Dodgers (3-1, 1.93 ERA) vs PHI (A.J. Burnett) & vs COL (Jorge De La Rosa)

Julio Teheran – Atlanta Braves (2-1, 1.93 ERA) vs MIA (Tom Koehler) & vs CIN (Johnny Cueto)

Teheran was fantastic in his last start against the Phillies, throwing a complete game shutout. He walked none, allowed only three hits and struck out four. This after a rough go in his previous start against the Nationals. I like his matchup against the Marlins. Maybe he can bump up the strikeouts a bit more by playing Miami. He has fanned only 13 batters over 28 innings.

Johnny Cueto – Cincinnati Reds (1-2, 1.50 ERA) @ PIT (Edinson Volquez) & @ ATL (Julio Teheran)

Andrew Cashner – San Diego Padres (2-1, 1.27 ERA) @ MIL (Wily Peralta) & @ WSH (Tanner Roark)

Jon Lester – Boston Red Sox (2-2, 2.17 ERA) vs NYY (Masahiro Tanaka) & @ TOR (R.A. Dickey)

Francisco Liriano – Pittsburgh Pirates (0-3, 3.96 ERA) vs CIN (Mike Leake) & vs STL (Tyler Lyons)

Hope for the best:

Wily Peralta – Milwaukee Brewers (2-0, 1.96 ERA) vs SD (Andrew Cashner) vs CHI (Travis Wood)

Peralta is a nice play if you are looking for a couple starts this week. Wily has allowed only four runs over his first three games and against great teams too in the Red Sox, Pirates and Cardinals. He should be able to keep it up against the Padres and Cubs. Peralta was removed from his last start against St. Louis after 6.1 innings due to tightness in his back, but he seems good to go for his first start against the Padres. He has a 7.6 K/9 ratio in the second half of last season and although the strikeouts haven’t been there this year he has potential to punch out a few.

Jason Hammel – Chicago Cubs (2-1, 3.05 ERA) vs ARI (Bronson Arroyo) & @ MIL (Marco Estrada)

Dan Straily – Oakland Athletics (1-1, 5.40 ERA) vs TEX (Yu Darvish) & @ HOU (Dallas Keuchel)

Zach McAllister – Cleveland Indians (1-0, 2.04 ERA) vs KC (Jeremy Guthrie) & @ SF (Tim Lincecum)

Chances are you grabbed McAllister for Week 2 and because he’s been so good you have hung on to him. He has two decent matchups this week against KC and in SF. McAllister has won his last two starts and was fantastic against the Tigers in his last outing allowing only one run on four hits. He also had a nice performance against the Padres where he struck out seven over 7.2 scoreless innings. McAllister is owned in only 13 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

Tom Koehler – Miami Marlins (2-1, 1.89 ERA) @ ATL (Julio Teheran) & @ NYM (Jenrry Mejia)

Garrett Richards – Los Angeles Angels (2-0, 2.84 ERA) @ WSH (Tanner Roark) & @ NYY (Masahiro Tanaka)

Richards is 2-0 with a decent ERA, but will be in tough this week against two power-hitting teams in the Nats and Yanks. Richards can sometimes find himself in trouble with his control  having walked 10 batters already this season. This will be the toughest test to date for the Angels starter and Week 4 will go along we in what we can expect from him. Is he a stream option only or worth a roster spot? Let’s see.

Clay Buchholz – Boston Red Sox (0-1, 5.51 ERA) vs BAL (Wei-Yin Chen) & @ TOR (Brandon Morrow)

Travis Wood – Chicago Cubs (0-2, 3.00 ERA) vs ARI (Brandon McCarthy) & @ MIL (Wily Peralta)

Tanner Roark – Washington Nationals (1-0, 5.29 ERA) vs LAA (Garrett Richards) & vs SD (Andrew Cashner)

Ian Kennedy – San Diego Padres (1-3, 4.13 ERA) @ MIL (Yovani Gallardo) & @ WSH (Taylor Jordan)

Mike Leake – Cincinnati Reds (2-1, 2.95 ERA) @ PIT (Francisco Liriano) & @ ATL (David Hale)

Pittsburgh hasn’t been able to put up runs and the Braves offense has been hot and cold, so Leake becomes a decent play this week especially after his eight strikeout performance against the Pirates last week. In his previous start against the Cardinals, Leake allowed only four hits over eight scoreless innings. He is owned in 36 percent of Yahoo! leagues and that number should be higher. I had Leake on my roster for most of last season, he does nothing flashy, but is a solid source for wins as long as his Reds get to Liriano and Hale. Pat Mayo and Garion Thorne touch base on Leake and Peralta on the FNTSY Sports Network.

Danny Salazar – Cleveland Indians (0-2, 7.71 ERA) vs KC (James Shields) & @ SF (Ryan Vogelsong)

Scott Feldman – Houston Astros (2-1, 1.69 ERA) @ SEA (Erasmo Ramirez) & vs OAK (Tommy Milone)

Tommy Milone – Oakland Athletics (0-1, 4.09 ERA) vs TEX (TBA) & @ HOU (Scott Feldman)

Jenrry Mejia – New York Mets (2-0, 2.81 ERA) vs STL (Tyler Lyons) & vs MIA (Tom Koehler)

Mejia will make his Monday start. There was talk he could miss it because of a blister, but the Mets announced he is good to go. That doesn’t mean you should plug him into the lineup against the Cardinals on Monday. May not be a bad idea to see how he reacts. Mejia has been great to start the season so you wouldn’t be totally wrong to give him a shot and hope for the best. Mejia had 15 strikeouts over his first 11 innings, cooled off a bit with only three in his last outing against Arizona, but he threw five scoreless innings allowing only two hits. So ride out Mejia as he is only owned in 12 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

R.A. Dickey – Toronto Blue Jays (1-3, 6.26 ERA) vs BAL (Miguel Gonzalez) & vs BOS (Jon Lester)

Wei-Yin Chen – Baltimore Orioles (2-1. 4.76 ERA) @ BOS (Clay Buchholz) & KC (Jeremy Guthrie)

Jake Odorizzi – Tampa Bay Rays (1-2, 5.63 ERA) vs MIN (Mike Pelfrey) @ CWS (Chris Sale)

Edinson Volquez – Pittsburgh Pirates (1-0, 1.71 ERA) vs CIN (Johnny Cueto) & @ STL (Adam Wainwright)

Jeremy Guthrie – Kansas City Roayls (2-0, 4.34 ERA) @ CLE (Zach McAllister) & @ BAL (Wei-Yin Chen)

Risky business:

Dillon Gee – New York Mets (1-0, 3.71 ERA) vs STL (Adam Wainwright) & vs MIA (Jose Fernandez)

Bronson Arroyo – Arizona Diamondbacks (0-3, 7.11 ERA) @ CHI (Jason Hammel) & vs PHI (Cliff Lee)

Miguel Gonzalez – Baltimore Orioles (1-1, 6.28 ERA) @ TOR (R.A. Dickey) & vs KC (James Shields)

Taylor Jordan – Washington Nationals (0-2, 5.94 ERA) vs LAA (Tyler Skaggs) & vs SD (Ian Kennedy)

Tyler Lyons – St. Louis Cardinals (N/A) @ NYM (Jenrry Mejia) & vs PIT (Francisco Liriano)

Do not believe in Tyler Lyons, I don’t care how his first two starts go he won’t be in this Cardinals rotation for long. Last year in eight starts Lyons posted a 2-4 record with a 4.75 ERA. With Joe Kelly on the 15-day DL Lyons has a great opportunity to prove his worth, but I think it’s only a matter of time before we see Cardinals manager Mike Matheny give Carlos Martinez a shot in the rotation.

Dallas Keuchel – Houston Astros (1-1, 3.50 ERA) @ SEA (Felix Hernandez) & vs OAK (Dan Straily)

Brandon McCarthy – Arizona Diamondbacks (0-3, 7.11 ERA) @ CHC (Travis Wood) & vs PHI (Cole Hamels)

John Danks – Chicago White Sox (1-0, 3.32 ERA) @ DET (Max Scherzer) & vs TB (Cesar Ramos)

Jorge De La Rosa – Colorado Rockies (0-3, 7.58 ERA) vs SF (Ryan Vogelsong) & @ LAD (Hyun-jin Ryu)

Paul Maholm – Los Angeles Dodgers (0-1, 4.97 ERA) vs PHI (Cliff Lee) & vs COL (Juan Nicasio)

Ryan Vogelsong – San Francisco Giants (0-0, 5.40 ERA) @ COL (Jorge De La Rosa) & vs CLE (Danny Salazar)
